Work Opportunity
Tax Credit

The Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) is a federal tax credit available to employers who invest in American job seekers who have consistently faced barriers to employment. Employers may meet their business needs and claim a tax credit if they hire an individual who is in a WOTC targeted group.

The question has been asked how can we better assist employers who apply for Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) and have a certification not yet approved.

  1. The employer gets an email on correction process or request for supporting paperwork request.
  2. Once the determination has been made, the employer has 1 year to file an appeal.
  3. They can always reach out to the WOTC office via email wotc_contact@jfs.ohio.gov or call (855) 459-3773

*Area 8 had 162 certifications approved during 1st Quarter 2024. Review employer submission until final approval (website).

Federal Bonding Program

The Federal Bonding Program gives employers peace of mind and individuals with difficult backgrounds second chances. Employers can get $5,000 worth of FREE fidelity bond coverage for each at-risk, hard-to-place job seeker they hire.

  • The bonds cover the first six months of employment.
  • They protect against losses caused by fraudulent or dishonest acts of bonded employees.
  • There is no cost for the employer or the job applicant.
